Delete a profile
Move it to the recycle bin
Deleting closes the profile's browser first. A row that disappears while its browser keeps running leaves a window nothing can reach and files nothing owns.
A profile moved to the recycle bin in the web account or on another computer while it is open here is closed by the app at the next lock check, once a minute, with the line “Profile closed: it is no longer in the account” in the bell. Its browser, if it outlived the app, is closed the same way the next time the app starts.
Locked profiles under a profile password are not deleted in a batch. Before the delete window opens, the app takes them out of the selection and names them in one line, “Skipped because of a password: …”; the window lists only the rest.
A profile you have opened with its password (for ten minutes, or until you quit the app) goes with the batch. Delete a locked profile on its own: the app asks for its password first.
- 1
Right-click the profile card
Or press the three-dot button (More) on the card and choose Delete.
- 2
Read the delete window
The Move to the recycle bin window names the profiles: up to ten names, the rest as a number. If some of them are open, the window says how many, and they are closed first.
- 3
Press Move to the recycle bin
For many profiles at once, select them and press Delete on the bar above the list: the same window opens.
- 4
Find it under Recycle bin
In the left column below Extensions.
Delete permanently right away
The delete window has the box Delete permanently right away, without the recycle bin. Under it you always see what that means: cookies, sign-ins and site data on this computer are erased, and the profile cannot be brought back.
The box is not remembered: every window opens with it clear. Profiles of other people shared with you still go to the recycle bin: only their owner can delete them permanently, and the line under the box says how many there are.
Find a profile in the bin
Above the list of the bin stand a search by name, group or who deleted, and the choices Deleted by and Deleted. On the right you see how many rows are left after the search: Shown 3 of 14.
The row of a profile says who deleted it: you or a person's email, and through the API when a script deleted it through the local API. A profile deleted on another computer does not have this part yet.
What the recycle bin keeps
The record and the data both stay. Cookies, saved sign-ins and site data are untouched until you delete the profile permanently.
Profiles sitting in the bin do not take a slot of your plan.
Bring one back
Restore puts the profile back in the list with everything it had. The plan is checked again at that moment, so a full plan refuses the restore instead of putting back a row the next sync would drop.
A profile deleted on another computer shows here as being on your account, and restoring brings it back to this machine too.
Several at once: tick the rows and press Restore selected. Room on the plan is counted for all the selected ones before the first comes back: if it is short, the window says how much is left and brings none back.
Delete permanently
The confirmation names what goes with the record: the cookies, the sign-ins and the site data on this computer.
- 1
Open the Recycle bin
In the left column below Extensions.
- 2
Press Delete permanently
On the row you want gone.
- 3
Or press Delete selected permanently
For the ticked rows. If some of them are hidden by the search or the choices above the list, the question says how many.
- 4
Or press Empty the recycle bin
The same thing for everything in it at once, including what the search and the choices hide: the question names that number too.
What a permanent delete erases
The browser data folder, the profile's extension choices, its schedules, its launch entries and its counters. Its encrypted session in the shared folder goes too, so a second computer cannot bring it back.
The browser is closed first here as well: erasing under a live process is how an erase fails.
When the erase does not succeed
If the files could not be removed the app names the reason instead of showing a green line. That case matters most: a browser still holding its files is exactly when you would have believed the machine was clean.
Cannot be undone has to mean it
What this does not do
- It does not keep a copy for you. After the second step there is nothing left to restore.
- It does not reach a transfer file you wrote earlier. That file still holds the session it was made from.
- It does not delete the account behind the profile. It deletes the browser the account was used in.
Where this is decided
Each step above is one place in the code and one stand.
- Nothing outlives a deleted profile: log entries and counters included
- apps/desktop/test/delete-leaves-nothing.js
- Deleted permanently is reported honestly when the erase fails
- apps/desktop/test/purge-honesty.js
- The encrypted session in the shared folder goes with it
- apps/desktop/test/purge-clears-cloud.js
- The quota counts live profiles and not the ones in the bin
- apps/desktop/test/entitlement-quota.js
- A profile moved to the bin in the web account while it is open here is closed with a line in the bell, and so is its browser that outlived the app
- apps/desktop/test/предел-профилей-продление-живьём.js · apps/desktop/test/предел-продление-по-ответу.js
- The delete window with the list of names and the box that skips the bin, the search and choices of the bin, Deleted by you and through the API, restoring the selected with the room counted before the first
- apps/desktop/test/корзина-в-окне.js
- The bin and the delete window stay inside the edge at 1440 and 900 points, in two languages and two themes, and long names are not cut
- apps/desktop/test/сила-списка-вёрстка.js
- A batch delete leaves a locked profile in place and names it “Skipped because of a password”; a profile opened with its password goes with the batch; the delete window names only the rest

Questions
- Does deleting free a slot of my plan?
- Yes, as soon as it reaches the bin. Profiles in the recycle bin are not counted against the quota.
- Why was I asked to close the browser?
- Files held open cannot be removed. The app closes the profile itself first and tells you when something still held them.
- What happens to a one-off profile?
- It removes itself when its window closes, along with its cookies and sign-ins, and never passes through the bin.
- I am offline. Can I still delete permanently?
- Not while signed in: the server copy would survive and the local record is the only way to retry. The app says so instead of half deleting.
See the two steps yourself
The free plan gives two profiles, with no time limit and no card.
