Etsy shop accounts
What Etsy checks behind a shop
Opening a shop means handing over a bank account, a country and the identity documents Etsy asks for, and those three are checked against each other. A shop that skips the check simply does not take money yet.
The device and the address sit on top of that, and two shops answering with one of each are read as one seller.
Several shops one seller
A second shop is allowed and needs its own account with its own email address, which is the part people skip. Two shops signed in from one browser also share its cookies, and cookies are the cheapest link a platform can follow.
What Etsy removes are duplicate shops selling the same goods, because the point of the second shop is meant to be a different craft.
Why the ceilings exist
A renewal is the same action against the same shop as a fresh listing, so a bulk renewal belongs to the same New listings ceiling rather than a ceiling of its own. Four hundred renewals in an afternoon is the shape of a machine rather than of a maker.
These numbers sit on the profile card in Grid view, under "Safe daily ceiling", and each row shows its threshold there as a number: a ceiling of 10 with a 60% threshold reads "warning at 6". The app does not count actions on the platform and blocks nothing, so this is guidance and the decision is yours.
| Action | A day | Warning at |
|---|---|---|
| New listings | 10 | 60% |
| Listing edits | 40 | 75% |
| Review requests | 40 | 80% |
| Account switches | 2 | 50% |
First week of a new shop
A shop opened this week starts at a fifth of the daily ceiling, and the app lifts it a little every day until the seventh.
The ramp is a fraction of the scenario ceiling, so it follows that number instead of living beside it.
| Day | Pages a day |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | 24 |
| Day 2 | 42 |
| Day 3 | 60 |
| Day 4 | 78 |
| Day 5 | 96 |
| Day 6 | 108 |
| Day 7 and after | 120 |
Shop country and payouts
Payouts go to a bank in the country the shop is registered in, and that country is part of the shop's identity rather than a setting. A payout heading for a bank in a third country is the part that gets held, not the browsing.
A profile takes its clock and its language list from the country its proxy leaves through, so a shop registered in one place is not browsed from another by accident.
What the rules actually say
Etsy's seller policy covers what may be sold, how many shops one person may keep and how buyers may be contacted. Handmade, vintage and craft supplies each carry their own conditions inside it.
Read it at the source before you open the second shop. We point at it rather than paraphrase it, because our paraphrase would go stale without warning.
What this does not do
- It does not pass identity verification for you. The documents are yours and Etsy reads them.
- It does not make two shops with the same goods look like two sellers.
- It does not lift Etsy's own limits. The ceilings here are ours and they are lower on purpose.
- It does not cover the seller app on a phone. A browser profile covers the web.

Questions
- Can one person keep two shops?
- Etsy allows it with a separate account and email for each. What it removes are duplicate shops offering the same items.
- Does a renewal count as a new listing?
- For the New listings ceiling it does: it is the same action against the same shop. The app does not count renewals: the profile card shows a ceiling of 10 and "warning at 6", and the counting is yours.
- Must the exit country match the shop country?
- It does not have to and it usually should. A shop registered in one country and opened from another every day is a contradiction nobody needs to see.
- Can a flow ask buyers for reviews?
- The Review requests ceiling is forty a day, the profile card shows "warning at 32", and the app does not count the requests themselves. Whether the message itself is allowed is Etsy's rule, not the ceiling's.
- Does a shop profile survive a new computer?
- Yes, with its id: the id is the seed of the device. Cookies carried without it give a different machine holding the same logins.
